UEFA Champions League: PSG Beat Bayern Munich on Away Goals
Bayern Fall in Thrilling Quarterfinal Clash
Choupo-Moting's Goals Not Enough as PSG Advance
Paris St-Germain (PSG) have reached the UEFA Champions League semifinals despite a 1-0 defeat to holders Bayern Munich in the second leg of their quarterfinal matchup. Kylian Mbappe scored twice for PSG, while Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored both goals for Bayern.
The result means that PSG advance on the away goals rule, having won the first leg 3-2 in Paris. It is the first time that Bayern have been knocked out of the Champions League at this stage since 2011.
The match was played at an electric pace, with both teams creating chances from the outset. PSG took the lead in the third minute when Mbappe scored a superb goal, curling the ball into the top corner from outside the box.
Bayern responded well to going behind, and they had the better chances for the rest of the first half. Choupo-Moting had a goal ruled out for offside, while Robert Lewandowski hit the crossbar.
PSG doubled their lead in the 68th minute when Mbappe scored again, this time with a close-range finish from a cross by Angel Di Maria.
Bayern pulled a goal back in the 82nd minute when Choupo-Moting scored from a corner. The goal gave Bayern hope, but they were unable to find an equalizer in the remaining minutes.
PSG will now face Manchester City in the semifinals, while Bayern will be looking to bounce back in the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal.
