Brooklyn Gets Backup Center

Details of Contract Not Released

The Brooklyn Nets have signed center Nerlens Noel to a 10-day contract, the team announced on Monday. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.

Noel, 28, last played for the Detroit Pistons, where he averaged 3.4 points and 4.9 rebounds in 16 games before being waived on Feb. 10.

The Nets were in need of a backup center after Nic Claxton went down with a hamstring injury. Claxton is expected to miss at least two weeks.

Noel is a 6-foot-11 center who has played for six different teams in his nine-year NBA career. He was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2013 draft by the New Orleans Pelicans.

Noel has career averages of 7.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game.
