Biscuit Basin Area Closed After Hydrothermal Explosion
Explosion Sends Dozens Running for Safety
The Biscuit Basin area of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming is closed following a hydrothermal explosion Tuesday morning. The explosion occurred around 10 am in the Biscuit Basin area of the park. Several tourists captured video of the event and in some, people can be seen running for safety.
Biscuit Basin contains a small collection of thermal features. Many however are small gem-like encrusted pools and geysers including Silver Globe Spring. The basin is named for the unusual biscuit-like deposits that used to surround Sapphire Pool according to the park's website.
