Patty Mills Traded to Hawks
Atlanta Acquires Veteran Guard
Thunder Save $45 Million
The Atlanta Hawks have acquired guard Patty Mills from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for guard TyTy Washington, reports ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Mills is a veteran sharpshooter who has won a championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014. He played for the Brooklyn Nets from 2021-23.
The trade saves the Thunder approximately $45 million in salary and luxury tax payments. Mills is set to earn $13.5 million in the final year of his contract, while Washington is on a rookie deal worth $3.4 million.
Mills will now become a member of the Atlanta Hawks, who are looking to make a playoff push this season. He will join a young and talented roster led by Trae Young and Dejounte Murray.
The Thunder, meanwhile, are rebuilding and have been shedding salary in recent months. They traded away Darius Bazley and Mike Muscala earlier this season and are now without Mills. They are likely to be active in the buyout market in the coming weeks.
