Eovaldi Stumbles In Rangers Shutout Loss

Eovaldi Stumbles in Rangers' Shutout Loss

Boston's Bats Silenced in 4-0 Defeat

Eovaldi Uncharacteristically Wild

Nathan Eovaldi's typically reliable right arm failed him in a 4-0 loss to the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night. The Red Sox starter surrendered four runs on eight hits and two walks in just 3 1/3 innings of work, his shortest outing of the season.

Eovaldi's command was off from the start, as he struggled to locate his fastball. He hit two batters and walked another in the first two innings, and the Rangers took advantage with a pair of runs in each frame.

Eovaldi settled down somewhat in the third inning, but he ran into more trouble in the fourth when he gave up a two-run homer to Rangers' catcher Jonah Heim.

Boston's Offense Struggles to Produce

The Red Sox offense, which has been one of the most productive in the American League this season, was held in check by Rangers' starter Martin Perez.

Perez allowed just four hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings of work, striking out six Red Sox batters. The Rangers' bullpen then came in and finished off the shutout, with Joe Barlow striking out the side in the ninth inning.

The Red Sox had their chances to score, but they stranded eight runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

Red Sox Fall to 29-28

The loss dropped the Red Sox to 29-28 on the season, while the Rangers improved to 26-31.

The Red Sox will look to bounce back on Wednesday night when they face the Rangers again in Arlington.

Eovaldi's Woes

Eovaldi's struggles on Tuesday were uncharacteristic for the right-hander, who has been one of the most consistent pitchers in the Red Sox rotation this season.

Eovaldi entered the game with a 3.31 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 54 innings pitched this season.

However, Eovaldi has now allowed 10 runs on 15 hits and four walks in his last two starts, spanning just 7 1/3 innings.
